Shelley Ann Jackson

Shelley Ann Jackson is an author, illustrator and educator. She holds an MFA in Illustration as Visual Essay from The School of Visual Arts, and an MFA in Writing for Children & Young Adults from the Vermont College of Fine Arts. Her first book, Little Lions, Bull Baiters & Hunting Hounds: A History of Dog Breeds received a non-fiction research grant from SCBWI and earned ForeWord magazine’s Gold Medal for Juvenile Non-fiction. Shelley has worked with clients such as Animal Planet, Boyds Mills Press, Compassion International, HarperCollins Publishers, the New York Times, Penguin Putnam Inc., and Tundra Books. She is a long-time member and volunteer for the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators, including a stint as regional advisor for the Austin, Texas chapter. Originally from the U.S., Shelley now lives in Cambridge, England where she runs the master’s in Children’s Book Illustration program at the Cambridge School of Art, Anglia Ruskin University. In her free time, Shelley and her family (including two dogs and sometimes a pony!) roam the UK and Europe, drawing interesting things, seeking out towns they’ve read about in books, and hunting for handmade chocolates.
