When she’s not illustrating or writing her next project, Kaitlyn works in a high school library, surrounded by books and a gaggle of curious, outspoken teenagers. Her close relationship with her students gives her a unique perspective on what young people want to read, fueling her passion to create accessible, vibrant worlds where readers can get lost. Having struggled with reading herself as a child, Kaitlyn is dedicated to making stories that help all kids feel seen, heard, and valued.
Following in her illustrator mom’s footsteps, Kaitlyn recently earned a BFA in Communication Arts from VCU. Her early sketchbooks, filled with funnies to cope with her neurodivergence, sparked her desire to celebrate diversity and provide space for every child’s voice. Now living in central Virginia with her two hairy cats and her two hairless guinea pigs, Kaitlyn believes that when children are allowed to shine, our world becomes a brighter place.
